Egg-tra Special Delivery

Thank you Grandpa Ern and Miss Betty for kicking off Easter weekend with the most incredible packages we could have ever dreamed of! Thank you for the wonderfully thoughtful and wonderfully yummy (and mostly wonderfully gone) gifts and treats! YOU MADE OUR DAY!

You're gonna miss this...

I had big aspirations for spring break. I promised fun activities. I promised surprise adventures. I made up a "spring break is sup-ah fine in 09" song and we sang it every day last week. Yesterday I delivered. Today I failed. In my defense, Andy flooded the bed not once...not twice...but THREE times. (after a week of perfect potty work too) (calling Cameron Weber!) I also managed to pick up a mean and disgusting cold. It also managed to SNOW in Charlottesville this morning. You would have had to be up changing bed linens for the 3rd time at 4am to see the flakes, but it plain felt like winter outside all day.

Stella and fella were busy early this morning flying rockets to princess balls upstairs and I thought that maybe we could have one of those lazy pj days. By 8am, I knew just how wrong I was to think this. I am pretty sure that my children have been contacting the spring break authorities to file a formal complaint. I feel terrible that I didn't deliver today...and now all I can hear is Trace Adkins singing "You're gonna miss this...you're gonna want this back...you're gonna wish these days didn't go by so fast!" It helps that Trace himself sang this to me (and 100 aged allergists in suits at an allergy benefit) personally last month. I'd like to print these words on the wall of the playroom in the new house but have major hangups with reinforcing the use of "gonna" but that is another post for another day...I'm off to reclaim what is left of the day and give these kids the adventures I promised. Late night Easter egg dying anyone? I've got two takers on that one for certain!

Do I get any points for allowing the kids to pick out their own clothes? I mean, seriously, this might be the first time I've ever let the kids leave the house looking this way. Andy is wearing Grace's polka dot pants and crocs on the wrong feet. They thought it was hilarious. Half credit?

Monday Magic

I used to spend every Wednesday morning in a playgroup. Someone in my house pretty much had to be separated from a limb for me to give up my weekly sanity saver. Nothing beats getting together with some Mom friends and letting the kids play while you get to talk about things that don't revolve around the letter of the day or Dora the -where-are-your-parents-Explorer. Those days have been replaced by the preschool shuffle and the new reality of having a few mornings to myself each week. I thought this was a bit of an improvement...until today. It's spring break here so it was high time that I made good on the 4,000 "we should really get together" pacts that I have made with some friends. After a year and a half of trying, Julie and Tabitha brought the kids over today for some princess magic (with a little mission space mixed in). The girls absolutely delighted in each other's beauty and John Glenn and "Boss" were pretty magical in their own right...and I thoroughly enjoyed my glorious adult conversations with Tabitha and Julie!

So maybe "Boss" isn't in to dressing up just yet...but, as it turns out, he is into doughnuts. I secured my "friend of the year" award from Julie when she caught me feeding this baby boy a doughnut hole. I didn't exactly do the math on Boss' age...but boy did my buddy love that doughnut! I think I have a friend for life in this little guy.

Sick, per Andy

Grace was home sick last week with a fever and general fatigue. She slept for two entire days and read books quietly during the brief periods when she was awake. Young Andrew woke up with what I can only assume is the same fever this morning. He is certainly not himself; he is taking extended breaks from swinging from the chandelier to rest in my lap. He asked me to make a video of his "John Glenn" song for his little buddy Lila...as in the famous singing Lila that Andy is completely captivated with (click here for the link)...so now you can see what 102* looks like if you're Andy.

So Lila, this one is for you:

New haunts...

I can't even remember (my name) if I posted anything about putting our house on the market...but we did indeed list out house over a month ago and were fortunate to both sell this house and buy a new house within 5 days. We will be moving out of this sweet house on May 18 and traveling 14.5 big miles to our new home. Given the magnitude of this distance, we spent the better part of Saturday getting acquainted with our new area. I am looking forward to being 7.5 miles from the Harris Teeter; I'll take that any day over my current 2 mile drive to the Food Dog (Lion). Perhaps of greater importance, we'll be 1.5 miles from the fabulous Oak Hill Winery and another 5 miles from two other gorgeous wineries.
Stella and Fella DO own clothing, for the record. These two sat by this little indoor fountain and ate lunch while we chatted with the winery owners.

Andy stole the camera and made all of us pose with Kiki.
