One with nature, etc...

We are spending less time getting settled and more time being settled in the new house. I have to admit that I'm starting to feel a bit like Snow White...deers hang out in our front yard and our back yard (and the rest of the yard for that matter) and don't feel the slightest need to scurry away when we join them (I'm pretty sure that they're busy eating our landscaping). A dove sits on the ledge of my bathroom window every morning when I take a shower ("what are you looking at mr. bird of peace?"). Neighbors have made a point to warn us about the black bear that lives in our backyard; apparently he is "friendly." A copperhead was waiting on the front walk when we arrived, but I think he likes us more than we like him. Earlier this week, Grace and Andy spent a solid hour watching a turtle. A quick google search helped us piece together some ideal food for this little box turtle - happy to report that "turtle friend" dined on organic mesclun greens and handpicked local blueberries. If we could all be so lucky.

The downside of living amidst so much nature: bees. Grace got her first sting this week. A quick google search and one tablespoon of peanut butter later (half on the sting, half in the mouth), happiness was restored.
We hosted our first overnight guest: Bayley. Technically, Sweetie was our first guest but we like to think that this is her second home. Mom and Bayley were on their way to WV for a visit with my grandparents. She was an absolute angel - we hated to see them go!
